I actually bought and watched this DVD African Origins Of Our Faith as a personal challenge to myself.

Though I'm urbanized, being an Aeta (indigenous group in the Philippines), Christianity is something that's relatively recent, and the Bible even something more recent. My family wasn't converted to European Christianity until the 18th century, and most Aeta have converted to European Christianity in the 20th and 21st centuries.

We were taught the prayers and going to church and all that, but not the Bible. My grandparents never read the Bible, in fact I was the first in my family to study the Bible in school. I did not find spiritual meaning in those Bible verses. The Gospels was just something I had to study for tests. In high school I felt sad about Jesus but I did not want to go through Confirmation to be a full-fledged Catholic. I did but I resented it for a long time. As an adult, Catholics and other Christian denominations tried to convert me again but I never became a holy devout person. Later on I accepted that some Christian beliefs became significant and were syncretized into the old, pre-Christian belief system in the islands, and I understand what the pre-Roman Christianity means for many of the oppressed.

Learning more about our history African Origins of our Faith, I understand now that Christianity did not originate in Europe but was reinterpreted by Europeans to become a way to oppress us. Dr. Chike Akua went deep with it by revealing all of the central Christian figures' theological predecessors and concepts are in Kemet.

I was shocked that the Bible was referring to places in Africa. Suddenly all the assertions among conscious Africans that "Jesus was Black" makes sense. It was fascinating to learn that from Kemetic "Ka" came "Karast" in Gnostic, and became "Kristos" in Greek. Also Anubis is the Greek name of Anpu. And the counterpart of Wenut is Merut. I am appreciative of Dr. Chike Akua's careful attention to language and that leading to deeper understanding and also recognition of European hijacking African concepts.

Whether one is devout follower of an or not, if one is Black, they must watch this DVD!
