Why is Garvey Nation for Black people?

While we respect all races, Garvey Nation is here to address the unique needs of Black people.

For us, as a Black race, to end the endless cycle of dependence on other races for jobs, businesses, financial aid, public assistance and support, we must learn that we can provide these things for ourselves, like other races do. By building Garvey Nation on our own, we learn and develop confidence that we can build businesses, buy from them and achieve success, independence and wealth, like other races have achieved by supporting their own businesses. We must take this important step on our own, and not slip back into further dependence on others to assist us or to do it for us, which just reinforces the very dependency that we are working to overcome.

Garvey Nation was created specifically to get millions of Black people buying from Black-owned businesses, so we can take responsibility for our own condition, create millions of jobs and greatly reduce poverty, drugs and crime in our communities. Solving these problems on our own helps us become better citizens, contributors rather than takers from society, and allows us to stand on our own two feet with dignity and respect.

In the words of Marcus Garvey a century ago, "We as a race... are fit to survive and capable of shaping our own destiny".

Why the colors red, black and green?

Garvey Nation is inspired by Marcus Garvey who created the red, black and green flag to represent all Black people. In August 1920, he held a convention in New York City and thousands of Black people attended from countries all over the world. Delegates from 25 countries voted and declared "That the colors, Red, Black and Green, be the colors of the Negro race" (see Declaration of Rights #39).

Furthermore, it was declared that "Red is the color of the blood which men must shed for their redemption and liberty; black is the color of the noble and distinguished race to which we belong; green is the color of the luxuriant vegetation of our Motherland."

We honor Marcus Garvey by having red, Black and green as the official colors of Garvey Nation.

Why is Garvey Nation so awesome?

We get that question a lot 😊. It's simple: We are a team of Black people who are fiercely determined to finish what Marcus Garvey started. We are endowed with melanin, united by mother Africa, inspired by Marcus Garvey, blessed by the Creator and fueled by the love of our ancestors.
